The Gathering of Clouds

Calabanga is one of the major rice producers in the province. With the looming unwelcome downpour coming, farmers are in deep trouble. The vast ricefields at the back of our house are starting to turn their tops heavy-yellowish while some tracts have just started pollinating. Weeks from now, a bountiful harvest is a prospect.

But at this phase, harrowing winds and pelting rain will turn the rice stalks water-heavy, break and soak, or blow the tiny milky pellets off. There is no way to avert massive crop destruction. We wait and pray.

The Glutenous Politics on Rice

An Pagtiripon kan Panganuron

An banwaan saro sa pinaka mayor mag-ani nin paroy sa provincia. Sa nagdadangadang na uran, an mga paraoma dakula an problema.

Mayo man maginibo para ini maibitaran. Naghahalat asin nagpapangadyi.

  1. Oh I remember October is harvest season. I hope the typhoon is going to miss the Philippines this time.

    Take care.

  2. Oh, yes! I do hope the typhoon does miss the Philippines! Hope the rice crop survives! Great shots!

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

    Have a great weekend1

  3. We’ll be praying, too: that the rains will hold and you’ll have a bountiful harvest this year. Your pictures perfectly capture the tension inherent in a life so close to nature.

  4. I hope your rice crop – and the Philippines – are saved, Japa. (And that’s the first time I’ve ever seen rice growing in the fields – normally I just see it dried, in bags from the supermarket!)
    Janice.

  5. Oh.. this pictures bring back memories 40 years ago, where I used to help my mother at sawah – paddy field. Yes, those carefree days.
    Thanks for posting this.

  6. Wild weather in the Pacific this week, hope it is a good weekend at your place.

Fabulous photos you are sharing with Sky Watch Friday.

  7. Good Luck to you – I am hearing about much devastation and more storms on the way. I hope your crops are spared. Stay safe!

  8. The destructive potential of the skies. And how fragile the rice crop is. I hadn’t realised that there was this crucial, fragile stage just before harvest. I hope that the worst results can be averted.
