377 out of 10,966 examinees hurdle PNPA cadet admission test

MANILA, Dec. 18 — A total of only three hundred seventy-seven (377) examinees (283 males and 94 females) passed the highly-competitive PNPA Cadet Admission Test (CAT) held last November 10 in 24 key cities nationwide.

The 377 successful examines represents only 3.4% out of the total 10,966 qualified applicants who took the three-hour examinations which consisted of four parts namely, English & Communications, Mathematics & Science, Abstract and Logical Reasoning and General Information and Current Events.

In its quest for genuine reforms and transformation to improve the quality of graduates, the PNPA administration under Police Chief Superintendent Noel Constantino has increased the recruitment and selection standards starting this year which includes adopting a competency-based predetermined passing score of 60% and with no score below 50% in each of the four parts of the examinations which totaled 200 items.

As part of the PNPA administration’s innovative efforts and pioneering scheme to attract the best and the brightest applicants for PNPA cadetship, for the first time, high school valedictorians and salutatorians as well as sic college cum laude graduates who are qualified were granted the privilege to be exempted from taking the cadet admission test.

A total of 144 honor high school graduates (valedictorians and salutatorians) and honor college graduates (cum laude) have availed of this privilege.

Passing the highly-competitive CAT examinations is only the first stage in the PNPA cadet admission system as the successful CAT examinees together with the qualified honor student graduates which totals 521 will further undergo a series of tests to be conducted by PNPA Cadet Admission Committee and to be ably assisted by the PNP National headquarters under PNP chief, Director General Alan Purisima.

The further testing consists of a psychological and psychiatric examination, physical/medical/dental exams, drug test, physical fitness test, background investigation and a panel interview. The said testing is sequential that is, an applicant who fails in an earlier stage will not be allowed to proceed to the next stage.

The congratulatory notices will be sent to the successful CAT examinees as well as notices to the qualified honor student graduates within this week.

They are advised to report to the PNP Training Service located in Camp Crame, Quezon City not later than 8:00 A.M. of January 13, 2013 (Monday) and bring with them the said notice and other requirements.

Those who will hurdle all stages of admission will be appointed as PNPA cadets not later than May 1, 2014 as a member of Batch 2018. PNPA cadets are government scholars provided with free tuition, board and lodging and initial clothing allowance, they also receive a monthly pay and allowances amounting to P29,525.

PNPA cadets who successfully complete the four-year training are conferred a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Safety (BSPS) and are commissioned as Inspectors in the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Jail Management & Penology (BJMP) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).(PNA)
